Making the decision to adopt is one that brings great joy to a family. The truth is in the middle of the joy there can be questions, anxiety, and insecurities that families need to work through. Families waiting for their adopted child may need to begin a process of understanding the new family dynamic or work with a therapist to prepare themselves mentally and emotionally for the new addition. Likewise, once their new family memeber is in the home there are times when the transition does nto go as smoothly as they had hoped. That is not a sign of failure, that is not a sign that it was a wrong choice, it is a normal response to the stress of change.
I provide Family therapy, as well as, individual counseling for adopted children to help decrease the stress caused by adoption transitions.
